The Windy City ThunderBolts have announced the reacquisition of Zach Piccola. This will not be New Hampshire native’s first stop in Crestwood. Piccola spent the end of the 2009 season as a ThunderBolt before being picked up by the Chicago White Sox Organization. Piccola was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 9th round in 2006.
Piccola spent two years in the Tigers minor league system in 2006 and 2007. The highest level he reached was High-A and the Lakeland Tigers. In 2009, Piccola spent time with two Independent clubs, Texarkcana and El Paso, before finishing the season in Windy City. He pitched in 8 games and faced a total of 40 batters and only allowed 11 to reach base. He also had an ERA of 3.72 and struck out 13 batters.
After his productive finish to the 2009 season, he headed to the Kannapolis Intimidators Class A Affiliate of the White Sox. He pitched in 21 games and had a 7.88 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 32 innings. Piccola will be returning to Crestwood in 2011 and hopes to have the success he enjoyed in 2009 for the Windy City ThunderBolts.
The Windy City ThunderBolts are a member of the twelve-team Frontier League, the oldest professional independent baseball league in the nation.
