The Windy City ThunderBolts have announced that they are adding depth to their bullpen with the signing of two right-handed pitchers, Rob Currie and Trey Watt.
Rob Currie grew up in St. Charles, Illinois and attended Elgin Community College before transferring to the NCAA Division II program at Tusculum College in Tennessee. Currie was a success at the college level and was drafted in the 12th round by the Milwaukee Brewers. He headed to the Helena Brewers, which is the Brewers’ Rookie Affiliate. In 2009, he had a 4-2 record after pitching in 24 games. Currie compiled an ERA of 3.57, 3 saves, and struck out 35 batters. Last season Currie remained in Helena and had another productive year. In 42 innings of work, Currie had a 3.61 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 11 walks. Currie looks to be a stable force in the bullpen for the 2011 ThunderBolts.
Joining Currie with the ThunderBolts in 2011 is Trey Watt. Watt spent his college career at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington. In his time at Pacific Lutheran, he compiled 22 wins, 212 strikeouts in 231 innings pitched. After his successful college career, he headed to the Missoula Osprey. The Osprey are a Rookie Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2010, Watt pitched in 19 games and had a 7.17 ERA. Also, he was able to strike out 17 batters in only 21.1 innings.
