On Wednesday August 11
th the Windy City ThunderBolts will be hosting the 2
nd Annual St. Baldrick’s Night at Standard Bank Stadium. As the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research, the St. Baldrick’s organization has raised over $41.7 million in life-saving cancer research including grants, fellowships, and scholar funding. Each year thousands of people volunteer to shave their heads with children fighting cancer and ask for donations of support from friends and family.
Participants for the ThunderBolts’ St. Baldrick’s event are asked to raise a minimum of $50.00, with most volunteers setting individual goals in the hundreds. This year’s event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with registration at the stadium. The head shaving will take place inside Standard Bank Stadium following a special pregame ceremony of player’s head shaving at 6:00 p.m.
In addition to community volunteers, five ThunderBolt players have signed up to shave their heads. The players, lead by shavee team captain Brent Solich, include Greg Johnson, Dustin Williams, Greg Stolzenburg, and Pete Paris. The ThunderBolts organization has set an event goal of raising $5,000.00 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
