The River City Rascals scored five runs in the first two innings against the ThunderBolts on Thursday night, but their efforts went for naught as heavy rains ruined the game at T R Hughes ballpark in O’Fallon, MO. Because this is the last match between the two teams this season, the game is not expected to be made up.
After the strong River City start, rains came down and dropped steadily for a little over a half hour. When the skies cleared, the tarp was removed and play very quickly resumed with Gary Moran, the Rascals’ starter remaining in the game. By the time the game had restarted, it had already begun raining again. After the ThunderBolts began the third with back-to-back singles, the downpour recommenced then, officially ending play in O’Fallon.
Andrew Werner and the ThunderBolts come out ahead after the Bolts’ starter lasted just 1.2 innings, walking five and hitting two, in the early 5-0 deficit. Werner’s ERA will reset to 2.15. Any stats accumulated in this game will be erased and the game officially will not have started.
The ThunderBolts come home on Friday after their 5.22 game road trip comes to a close. They welcome the Gateway Grizzlies into town for the final three games of the season’s first half. Dustin Williams (2-2) takes the mound in the series opener for Windy City. The game is set to begin at 7:05 at Standard Bank Stadium. Gates open an hour in advance and audio coverage is available on WXAV 88.3 fm.
