Windy City turned up the power in game three of their series with the Gateway Grizzlies as they took the finale 15-5 at GCS Ballpark on Sunday night.
After the Grizzlies scored first on a Landon Hernandez bases loaded walk in the second, Windy City answered with seven runs in the top of the third. The biggest hit in the inning was a JT Restko three-run homer, his sixth of the season. The Bolts also got contributions in the inning from Ryne White on an RBI single and Donnie Ecker with an RBI double.
They kept the pressure on in the fourth when Ryan Basham followed a Zach Aakhus single with his first home run in a ThunderBolts uniform making it 9-1. Basham didn’t wait long for his second Windy City home run. He hit another two-run shot in the sixth, an inning that saw five runs cross the plate. Basham’s homer was followed by two walks, a hit batter and two errors, allowing Windy City three runs. Kent Gerst picked up an RBI single in the inning.
The Bolts added one more run in the eighth and Gateway’s bats woke up in the eighth when Jason Patton hit a solo homer and Jareck West hit a three-run bomb, but it was too little too late for the Grizzlies team that fell 15-5. Dustin Williams went six solid innings for the win (2-2). He allowed just one run during his time in the game. John Flanagan took the loss for Gateway (4-2), though only three of his nine runs were earned.
After an off day Monday, the ThunderBolts make their only trip of the season to O’Fallon, MO on Tuesday to take on the River City Rascals. Game time for game one of that three-game series is 7:05 on Tuesday night. Brent Solich (3-3) takes to the hill for the Bolts. That contest can be heard on Sportsjuice.com.
