The Windy City ThunderBolts have announced the signings of two pitchers in the past few weeks.
Dustin Williams is a recent graduate of Oklahoma City University. As a Star in 2010, he went 13-2 with a 4.75 ERA. He started 16 games and finished seven of those. Williams was a reliever in 2009 when he went 5-1 with a 3.93 ERA in 21 games. Overall, he won 31 games in his four years of college.
A right-handed pitcher, Williams made his ThunderBolts debut on June 13 at Southern Illinois. He threw five innings against the Miners, allowing two earned runs while striking out three. He is expected to remain in the Windy City starting rotation.
After Matt Jernstad’s contract was purchased by the Yankees, his place on the roster was filled by right-handed pitcher Pete Budkevics. Budkevics, however, will not pitch for the ThunderBolts. On June 18, the same day he joined the Windy City team, it was announced that the Los Angeles Dodgers had purchased his contract.
Budkevics is a recent graduate from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. He went 8-2 as a member of the Pioneer baseball team his senior season with an ERA of 2.97. He is also the career strikeout leader at C.W. Post. He amassed 297 of them during his college years and won a total of 20 games with the Pioneers. He is the second ThunderBolt in the last week to be signed by a major league organization.
