The game was tied 4-4 in the eighth inning when rain began to lightly fall at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday night. By the time Mike Sullivan had knocked in a run on a groundout and Guillermo Martinez crossed the plate on a wild pitch, the downpour had begun and play between the Windy City ThunderBolts and Traverse City Beach Bums was eventually suspended.
When the rain never let up, the game’s finish was pushed off until Wednesday night. The Bolts and Beach Bums were scheduled to finish the series at 6:05 central time on Wednesday. For a suspended game, Frontier League rules call for the full nine innings to be finished before a seven inning game two. Because this game had already reached the eighth inning, there will be no delay in start time, with the final two innings to be finished starting at 6:05.
Though the game had lasted long enough to be official, Windy City had not held the lead at the end of the seventh. Since the Beach Bums did not yet have an opportunity in the bottom of the eighth, the ThunderBolts win could not be finalized.
When play resumes on Wednesday, Mike Sullivan will be at second and Ryne White will be at first with J.T. Restko at the plate and two outs in the top of the eighth inning. The ThunderBolts are ahead 6-4.
