The Windy City ThunderBolts will once again have a radio home in 2010. For the second consecutive year, the 2007 and 2008 Frontier League champions have reached an agreement with WXAV 88.3 fm to have the team’s games broadcast.
WXAV, which operates out of Saint Xavier University in Chicago, aired over 50 games in the 2009 season, including all three of the ThunderBolts’ playoff games. This season’s deal is similar, calling for 55 regular season broadcasts, beginning with the Opening Day matchup between Windy City and new division rival, the Kalamazoo Kings. The complete schedule of game broadcasts can be found on wcthunderbolts.com or wxav.com.
For the ThunderBolts, this is just the second time in team history that its games will be heard over the air on an Illinois radio station, the first being last year on the same station.
The Windy City ThunderBolts are also happy to announce that 2009 Broadcast intern, Terry Bonadonna will be the lead broadcaster for the 2010 season. Bonadonna is a recent graduate of Saint Xavier University. When asked about the partnership and the hiring of Terry, ThunderBolts General Manager Mike Lucas said, "We are excited to be on the air again in 2010. Renewing the partnership with WXAV this season will continue to give our fans the opportunity to follow the ThunderBolts all season long, even if they can't make it to the ballpark. Terry is a welcomed addition to the staff and we are looking forward to hearing him call games in 2010 and beyond."
WXAV has received recognition from the Illinois Broadcasters Association in the Best Sports Broadcast category of the Student Silver Dome Awards two of the last three years, and has a tradition of working with professional sports teams including the Chicago Fire and the ThunderBolts last season. All games that are broadcast on the station can also be heard online at wxav.com. Any games that are not carried on the radio can be heard on sportsjuice.com and accessed through wcthunderbolts.com.
