Crestwood, IL Before he could even appear in a regular season game, Windy City ThunderBolts catcher and former Andrew High School star Nick Trzesniak was signed by the Texas Rangers. He is the seventh ThunderBolt signed by a Major League organization since 2004.
Trzesniak has been assigned to Class AAA Oklahoma, the Rangers affiliate in the Pacific Coast League. Trzesniak played 50 games for the RedHawks in 2006, so he is returning to familiar territory.
Trzesniak signed with the ThunderBolts in late April and participated in spring training with the club. He was picked up by Texas on Tuesday, one day before Windy Citys first game. Trzesniak was released by the Florida Marlins at the end of Major League spring training earlier this year.
After his career at Andrew, Trzesniak was selected in the first round of the 1999 draft by the San Diego Padres. He reached Class AAA Portland in 2005 with the Padres and played for both Oklahoma and Class AAA Albuquerque (Marlins) last season.
The ThunderBolts beat the Rockford RiverHawks on Opening Night and wrap up the series Thursday night at Hawk Ford Field. The ThunderBolts visit Rockford for two games on Friday and Saturday. The complete schedule can be found at www.WCThunderBolts.com.
