Crestwood, IL The Windy City ThunderBolts completed a trade on Saturday, May 12, sending pitcher Toro Trevino and catcher Charlie Lisk to the Gateway Grizzlies for pitchers Cory Lapinski and Anthony Rebyanski.
Lapinski spent his first two seasons of professional baseball with Class A Tri-City in the Houston Astros organization. Combined between both years, the left-hander went 3-2 with a 4.22 ERA in 36 relief appearances. He struck out 87 batters and allowed just 38 hits in 70.1 innings pitched. Opponents batted just .158 against Lapinski while he pitched for Tri-City.
Rebyanski played most of 2006 for the Grizzlies. He was 2-4 with a 3.62 ERA in 19 games out of the bullpen. Frontier League hitters managed just a .179 average against Rebyanski. The right-hander fanned 36 batters and gave up only 17 hits in 27.1 innings pitched.
I think it was a very fair trade for both sides. It was a trade where both teams were able to strengthen certain areas of their clubs. I really feel like we acquired two guys who show the ability to strike hitters out, said ThunderBolts manager Andy Haines.
Trevino (pictured) led the ThunderBolts with seven wins last year. He finished 7-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 15 starts. The Corpus Christi, TX native struck out 68 batters and walked 31 in 95.2 innings pitched.
Lisk signed with Windy City last August and hit .316 in 26 games. He was picked up by the San Diego Padres in September and began this season at Class A Lake Elsinore. Lisk appeared in 10 games before being released, giving his rights back to Windy City.
The ThunderBolts will host the Rockford RiverHawks for Opening Night at Hawk Ford Field on May 23, 2007. The complete schedule can be found at www.WCThunderBolts.com.
