Pease dominates in Bolts win

Dustin Pease tossed 6.2 hitless innings in his complete game victory
Dustin Pease pitched a five-hit complete game en route to an 8-2 win over the Florence Freedom.

With Kraig Binick on first and two down in the first inning, J. T. Restko gave the ThunderBolts a much needed lift, drilling a double against the outfield shift, bringing home Binick for a 1-0 Windy City lead.

The ThunderBolts expanded the lead in the fourth on an RBI double from Bryan Cook and a two-run homer from Vinnie Scarduzio to put Windy City up 4-0. The advantage was extended further in the sixth inning as with one out, Nate Hall doubled, followed by Cook’s second RBI double of the game for a 5-0 Bolts lead. Two more runs came in on a sacrifice fly from Gilberto Mejia and a single from Kraig Binick to up the lead to 7-0.

With the offense on the board, Dustin Pease set to work. The lefthander was magnificent, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh. With two outs, Brad Hough came through with the first Freedom hit of the game, a double to left. Florence parlayed that into a run, but Pease (9-6) was able to settle down and allow just one more run on three hits in the complete game effort. Allan Donato (0-1) took the loss for Florence.

The series wraps up on Thursday as Carson Bryant (1-2, 3.67 with Kalamazoo) makes the start for the ThunderBolts against Everett Saul (9-7, 5.85) for the Freedom. The game is set for a 6:05 p.m. CDT start with the pregame show starting at 5:45 on 88.3 FM, WXAV.
