The Windy City ThunderBolts have had their third player this season signed by an affiliated team as Dylan Axelrod has been signed by the Chicago White Sox.
Axelrod had served several roles for the ThunderBolts this season starting off the year as the long man out of the bullpen. He then moved to the closer role and was dominant picking up five saves in a span of just two-and-a-half weeks including locking down both ends of a doubleheader against River City on June 17.
The right-hander continued his dominance into the starting rotation where he went 2-1 with a 2.42 ERA, striking out 45 batters in 44.2 innings. A West Division All-Star, Axelrod took things to another level after the break. In three second half starts and one appearance out of the bullpen, Axelrod went 1-1 with a microscopic 1.23 ERA, while allowing opponents a .215 average against in 22 innings.
Assigned to the Sox South Atlantic League team, the Kannapolis Intimidators, Axelrod will be pitching for his third team of the season. He started the year with the Lake Elsinore Storm in the Padres system before joining Windy City.
