Windy City ThunderBolts hitters combined for three of the West Division’s seven hits as the East Division used three homeruns to power their way to a 5-2 win in the league’s annual showcase game.
Gilberto Mejia started at second base for the West and went 1-for-2 and had a pair of steals. Coming in during the fifth ininng, J. T. Restko went 2-for-2 with a run scored in the game. Restko recorded the only multi-hit game of the night for the West. Zach Aakhus started the game behind the plate going 0-for-2.
On the mound, Ross Stout came in behind Ryan Bird and Kyle Wright and pitched a perfect third inning, doing his part to keep the game scoreless into the sixth inning. Dylan Axelrod came in during the seventh inning and after surrendering a homerun to giving up a homerun to Jacob Dempsey of Washington, settled in and got Roberto Mena to ground into a double play.
The ThunderBolts return to action on Friday with a six game roadtrip to Traverse City and Kalamazoo with all six games broadcast on 88.3 FM, WXAV. There is action at Standard Bank Stadium this weekend as on July 17 and 18, the Chicago Fire Department will play two games against the U. S. Military All-Stars with each game starting at 7 p.m. There will be fireworks after both games.
