Windy City gets back in win column

The Windy City ThunderBolts scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning as they snapped a four-game game losing streak, beating the Evansville Otters 6-5.

After a scoreless first two innings, Windy City broke the ice in the third inning. With one out, Gilberto Mejia singled and stole both second and third. On the steal of third, Frank Meade sailed the throw into left field allowing Mejia to score for a 1-0 ThunderBolts lead. WC would up the lead to 2-0 as J. T. Restko homered to lead off the next inning.

Evansville would come back with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning, knotting the game at 2-2. In the sixth, with runners on the corners and two outs for Evansville, pinch-hitter Tyler Diamondhit a ball into right-center. Vinnie Scarduzio and Damian Walcott both went to play the ball. The miscommunication was costly as the ball ticked off Scarduzio’s glove, falling to the ground for a three-base error, allowing both runners to score and Diamond to go to third. Andre Liscinsky then singled, scoring Diamond for a 5-2 Otters lead.

As the fans in Crestwood have seen so many times this season, Windy City would fight back and did so right away. With runners on second and third and two outs, Gilberto Mejia grounded a ball to first that was booted by Tyler Diamond. The ball went into shallow right field allowing both runs to score to cut the lead to 5-4. Not satisfied to stop there, Mejia broke for second, stealing his third bag of the night. Vinnie Scarduzio and Dan Jordan then came through with back to back doubles, scoring a pair of runs and putting the ThunderBolts on top 6-5.

The Bolts were able to make the lead hold up as the relief corps was solid including a scoreless 1.1 innings from Brandon Garner who was able to work his way out of an inherited bases loaded situation in the seventh.

The win went to Adam Dominick (1-2) who threw an inning giving up just one unearned run. Billy Petrick worked a perfect ninth for his first save. Nick Utley (2-3) took the loss for Evansville.

The ThunderBolts will play the final game of the series at Evansville on Friday with Dustin Pease (4-1, 5.08) on the mound for Windy City against Calen Sutton (0-1, 7.58) for the Otters. All three games of the Evansville series will air on sportsjuice.com.  Windy City returns home Saturday when the ThunderBolts give you the Best Bang for Nine Bucks with a postgame fireworks extravaganza. There will also be a megaphone giveaway courtesy of the Sertoma Speech and Hearing Center.
