Rascals use home(r) field advantage against Bolts06/21/2009 9:53 PM
 The River City Rascals tagged Windy City ThunderBolts pitching for six homeruns as the Rascals downed the Bolts 11-8.
River City jumped out early in the bottom of the first inning as Jo-Jo Batten and Chris Colton hit back to back homers for a 3-0 Rascals lead. Batten would go deep again in the third to push the lead to 4-0.
Windy City had their chances early as they loaded the bases in each of the first and second innings but couldn’t plate any runs. The Bolts would get on the board in the fifth. With one out, Vinnie Scarduzio doubled. Two batters later, J. T. Restko blasted a two-run homer to left cutting the River City lead in half. The Rascals came right back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of solo homers off the bats of Scott Robinson and Ryan Wehrle to take the lead to 6-2.
The Bolts were not deterred, however, as Vinnie Scarduzio doubled with one out in the seventh. After an error allowed Guillermo Martinez to reach, J. T. Restko grounded a ball to short. Jorge Gutierrez flipped to second for the force, but the relay throw to first went into the stands, bringing home Scarduzio and sending Restko to second. Bryan cook lined a single to center to score Restko and cut the lead to 6-4. Nate Hall brought Windy City all the way back with a two-run homer to rightfield, tying the game at 6-6.
The good vibes were shortlived as in the bottom of the inning, Joe Billick hit the sixth River City long ball of the night, a three-run bomb to center to put the Rascals up 9-6. RC would add another run later in the inning to take a 10-6 lead. An unearned run came across for the Rascals in the eighth and Bryan Cook and Nate Hall drove in runs in the top of the ninth to cement the final score.
Despite surrendering the lead in the top of the top of the seventh, Eric Cordell (1-1) picked up the win for River City. Justin Fry (0-1) took the loss for the Bolts.
Adding a secondary insult to the loss, Gilberto Mejia went 0-for-4 with a walk, ending his league-high 25-game hitting streak.
