Crestwood, IL The Windy City ThunderBolts have signed pitcher Eric Fussell for the 2007 season. Fussell is a native of Crestwood and attended Marist High School.
The right-hander made his professional debut in 2006 with the Northern Leagues Joliet JackHammers. Fussell went 1-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 19 games, primarily as a reliever. In his three games as a starter, he gave up just five earned runs and picked up his first professional win.
Eric throws three quality pitches for strikes and has a very professional approach on the mound. I just really appreciated the way he competed this past season in the Northern League and feel as though he is just scratching the surface in his career, said ThunderBolts manager Andy Haines.
Fussell played his college baseball at St. Josephs College in Rensselaer, IN. He was a starter for the Pumas and compiled a 12-8 record with a 2.68 ERA over three seasons. He tossed ten complete games and two shutouts in his career and earned Honorable Mention All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors in 2006. Fussell is currently an assistant baseball coach for St. Josephs.
Eric is a guy that I targeted as soon as I was named manager of the ThunderBolts. He will compete for a job in our starting rotation and I am very excited that we were able to acquire him," Haines added.
The ThunderBolts have released the teams 2007 schedule and will host the Rockford RiverHawks for Opening Night on May 23, 2007. The complete schedule can be found at www.WCThunderBolts.com.
