Crestwood, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts professional baseball team, 2007 and 2008 Frontier League Champions, have announced the completion of a trade with the Lake Erie Crushers. Windy City will be receiving infielder Drew George and future considerations from Lake Erie in exchange for outfielder Scott Billak.
Drew George was a member of the Oregon State University team that won the 2007 College World Series, hitting .259 with ten doubles, one home run, and 16 RBI for the Beavers. He improved to a .322 mark with three home runs and 28 RBI during his senior season of 2008.
George signed with the Chillicothe Paints at the conclusion of his college career, appearing in 15 games as a third baseman, hitting .154 with three doubles in 39 at bats. The Paints players were transferred to the Lake Erie expansion club at the end of the 2008 season.
In other transactions, the ThunderBolts traded outfielder Brett Amyx to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains of the American Association for a player to be named later and placed right-handed pitcher Anthony Rebyanski on the retired list. Rebyanski recently underwent shoulder surgery and will miss the entire 2009 season.
“The trades of Scott and Brett were both dictated by their classifications in the Frontier League for the upcoming season, as we have an excess of players at their levels,” commented ThunderBolts general manager Steve Tahsler. “Drew George comes with an impressive background having won a College World Series, and our coaching staff had good things to say about him from when we faced the Paints last season.”
The Windy City ThunderBolts open the 2009 season on Thursday, May 21 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood. For more information, please visit us online at www.wcthunderbolts.com or contact the ThunderBolts at 708-489-BALL or [email protected]
