THUNDERBOLTS ADD FIRST BASEMAN, CATCHER
Crestwood, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts professional baseball team, 2007 and 2008 Frontier League Champions, has announced the signing of first baseman Bryan Cook and catcher Jamie Quinn to contracts for the 2009 season.
Bryan Cook was an NCAA Division II Second Team All-American, First Team Academic All-American, and South Region Player of the Year last spring playing for Nova Southeastern University. Cook posted a .418 batting average (second in the Sunshine State Conference), 17 doubles (tied for fourth), 17 home runs (fourth), and 48 RBI in 51 games. Cook hit .399 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs, and 59 RBI during his junior year. Cook appeared in nine games for the Rockford RiverHawks, hitting two doubles and two home runs in 28 at bats.
Jamie Quinn comes to Windy City out of the New York State League, where he hit .310 for the Capitols. Quinn finished with a .293 batting average for Queens College last spring, leading the Knights in hits and RBI while tying for the team lead in doubles.
“Tommy Thompson, our new field manager, has worked with both Bryan and Jamie in Florida this winter and has positive things to say about both players,” commented ThunderBolts general manager Steve Tahsler. “Bryan has consistently put up tremendous power numbers and will help to fill the void at first base left by Frontier League MVP Phil Hawke, who signed with the Florida Marlins. Jamie will provide depth behind the plate for us this season.”
The Windy City ThunderBolts open the 2009 season on Thursday, May 21 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood. For more information, please visit us online at www.wcthunderbolts.com or contact the ThunderBolts at 708-489-BALL or [email protected]
