Crestwood, IL - Windy City ThunderBolts closer Brian Beuning was selected as the relief pitcher on the 2006 Frontier League Postseason All-Star Team. Beuning established a new Frontier League single season record with 24 saves this year.
The Sauk Center, MN native was 2-5 with a 2.34 ERA in 46 games for Windy City. Beuning also struck out 67 batters and walked only 30 in 65.1 innings pitched. Opposing hitters managed just a .195 average against Beuning.
The previous record for saves in a season was 21, set by Zanesvilles Don Wolfe back in 1995. Beuning now holds two Frontier League single season records. He appeared in a record 54 games for Kalamazoo last year.
Beuning converted four straight save opportunities twice in 2006 and gave up just one run over his final 24 innings. One of his most memorable outings of the season came at home against Evansville on August 20. Beuning entered the game in the 8th inning and held the Otters to just three hits and no runs over the next five frames while striking out nine. The extra-inning win kept the ThunderBolts in the playoff hunt after taking three out of four from Evansville that weekend.
Beuning was also picked as a member of the West Division squad for the 2006 All-Star Game. He is now the second ThunderBolt to earn postseason honors, joining 2005 Postseason All-Star Justin Schuda.
