WASHINGTON -- The Windy City ThunderBolts (41-31) continue to roll as they beat the Washington Wild Things (36-36) 13-5 at CONSOL Energy Park on Friday night.
The victory was the ninth in a row for the ThunderBolts as they extended their season-high winning streak. The 'Bolts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning thanks to Wes Long's second grand slam of the season. The homer also tied him for the most runs scored in Windy City/Cook County history. He then broke the record with another home run in the seventh inning. Long now has 123 runs scored with Windy City. He also has eight home runs this season.
Scott Billak also homered in the win, his sixth homer of the season, in the fifth inning. Eight of the nine Windy City starters recorded a hit and a run scored in the blowout victory.
Starter Adam Dominick last 4.0 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits and struck out six. Jason Lowey (2-1) pitched the next 3.0 innings in relief to earn the win.
J. J. Hollenbeck (4-4) took the loss for the Wild Things going 5.0 innings giving up eight runs on seven hits, while striking out just one batter.
The 'Bolts will go for ten in a row on Saturday night against Washington at 6:05 p.m. CDT. The matchup will feature RHP Stephen Flake (6-3, 4.63) for Windy City against RHP Michael Schellinger (8-4, 3.14).
