CRESTWOOD -- The Windy City ThunderBolts (32-31) dropped thier second consecutive game losing to the Midwest Sliders (20-43) by a score of 9-7 in front of a crowd of 1,812 at Standard Bank Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Sliders jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning, jumping on Windy City starter Stephen Flake (6-3) with six consecutive base hits. Anthony Albano capped hitting with a two-run double before an RBI-groundout by Dom Lombardi. Midwest continued the scoring with a two-run homer from Zack Pace in the fourth inning to chase Stephen Flake from the game and make the score 7-0.
Windy City tried to claw back into the game with three runs in the seventh to make the score 8-4. Wes Long delivered the big hit in the inning with a base hit to center field with the bases loaded and two outs. The 'Bolts got two more runs in the eighth thanks to an RBI-single from Scott Billak and Gilberto Mejia scoring on a wild pitch.
Both teams added a run in the ninth for the final score of 9-7. Mark Suchowiecki (2-6) pitched six innings giving up just one run one four hits while striking out two. Earl Oakes pitched the final four outs for his tenth save of the season.
The series will continue Thursday night at Standard Bank Stadium and it will feature RHP Chris Rubio (0-4, 5.91) for Midwest against LHP Isaac Hess (3-5, 5.06) for Windy City. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a 7 inch polyresin Boomer Bank courtesy of First Midwest Bank. It will also be a Bud Light Thirsty Thursday as all 12oz. domestic drafts and fountain drinks will be just $1. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and gates open at 6:00.
