CRESTWOOD -- The Windy City ThunderBolts (27-27) picked up an exciting come-from-behind 4-3 win against the Evansville Otters (26-29) as Amos Ramon delivered the go-ahead double in the eighth inning at Standard Bank Stadium on Monday night.
The ThunderBolts entered the bottom of the eighth inning down 3-2 and Bretty Amyx singled to left field with one out. Josh Horn immediately delivered the game-tying double to right-center field but was thrown out at third base trying to stretch it into a triple. Danny Sawyer then reached second basse on a throwing error by Evansville shortstop Gered Mochizuki. Ramon then came through with the clutch RBI-double for the lead. Ramon also scored two runs in the winning effort while going 3 for 3 at the plate with two doubles. Petty pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the season.
Evansville took an early 1-0 lead in the second thanks to an RBI-single by Tom Pennino. The 'Bolts came back to tie the game at 1-1 after Mike Coles hit into a bases-loaded double play with nobody out in the third.
The Otters re-took the lead in the sixth with a run and made it 3-1 with another tally in the seventh inning. The ThunderBolts made it 3-2 in the seventh inning thanks to a safety squeeze off the bat of Mike Sullivan that scored Amos Ramon from third base.
Brian McCullough picked up the win in relief in his first outing for Windy City this year throwing a perfect eighth inning. McCullough started the year with Chillicothe before signing with the 'Bolts last week. Tristen Facer suffered the loss pitching the final 1.2 innings giving up the go-ahead runs.
WIndy City plays Evansville again on Tuesday night at 7:05 and the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive Rally Towels from AJ Smith Federal Saving Bank. The pitching matchup will feature RHP Ted Ratliff (0-0, -) making his first professional start for the ThunderBolts against RHP Ricky Bauer (6-3, 5.26) for the Otters.
