CRESTWOOD -- The Windy City ThunderBolts (26-27) were swept by the Southern Illinois Miners (30-24) on Sunday night, losing 4-0 at Standard Bank Stadium in front of 1,753 fans.
The 'Bolts were shut out for the second night in a row, this time by spot starter Chris Allen who went 6.2 innings giving up just six hits and one walk, while striking out seven. The rest of the Miner bullpen held Windy City scoreless for the rest of the contest.
Windy City did get another good performance out of their starter as Stephen Flake lasted 7 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on six hits, walking one, and striking out four.
Southern Illinois jumped out in front in the second inning after getting back-to-back singles from Joey Metropoulos and Tim Dorn. After a sacrifice bunt, Willie Keene hit a sac fly to right field to score the first run of the game.
The 'Bolts had opportunities to score throughout the game with their best chance coming in the fourth. With Wes Long at third base and one out, Brett Amyx popped out and Josh Horn struck out to end the threat.
The Miners blew the game open in the eighth inning with a three-run frame highlighted by a pinch-hit two-run single off the bat of Randy Rosa to make it 4-0. WIndy City loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Michael Sullivan grounded out to end the game.
Windy City will be at home for the next three games hosting the Evansville Otters with each game starting at 7:05. Tomorrow's game will be All Faith's Night as anyone who brings their church bulletin will receive $2 off the price of admission. The pitching matchup will be RHP Mike Eisenberg (1-4, 4.58) for WIndy City against RHP MIke Danchuck (2-0, 3.54) for the Otters.
