Windy City jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the Traverse City Beach Bums but couldn't hold on as the 'Bolts lost 3-2 in an exhibition contest at U. S. Steel Yard in Gary, IN.
The ThunderBolts jumped on Beach Bums starter David Nathanson with three straight singles to gain the early lead in the top half of the first. Traverse City answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Eric Fussell got the start for Windy City going two innings giving up just the one run.
The Beach Bums tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning off 'Bolts pitcher Desmond Jones. Jones, the third overall pick in the Frontier League draft, threw two wild pitches in the inning to set up the tying run.
Traverse City took their first lead in the eighth inning against Anthony Rebyanski. The Beach Bums' Mike Goetz led off the inning with a single and stole second. He then moved to third on a ground out and scored on a base hit by Jake Whitesides.
Windy City put the tying run on third in the ninth, but Brett Bostelman struck out Danny Sawyer to end the game.
Windy City will host the Midwest Sliders in their inaugural Charity Classic at 7:05 pm on Friday. Tickets for the Charity Classic are $5 in advance and $6 the night of the game, with proceeds benefiting Park Lawn School and Sertoma Center. The Charity Classic will feature a full run-through for the 2008 season, including pre-game activities, between-inning promotions, and a full concession menu. After the game, all kids will be able to run the bases and meet the ThunderBolts players for autographs.
