The Windy City ThunderBolts swept an exhibition double-header from the Rockford RiverHawks on Saturday afternoon, winning the opening game 6-2 and the nightcap 5-2 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood.
After struggling with control in a loss to the Joliet Jackhammers on Friday, the ThunderBolt pitching staff turned in a solid performance against Rockford. Ten different pitchers saw action for Windy City between the two games on Saturday.
The ThunderBolts return to preseason action on Monday when the Southern Illinois Miners visit Standard Bank Stadium for a 6:00 pm game before playing the Traverse City Beach Bums at the US Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana, at 1:00 pm on Tuesday.
Windy City will then host the Midwest Sliders in their inaugural Charity Classic at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 16. Tickets for the Charity Classic are $5 in advance and $6 the night of the game, with proceeds benefiting Park Lawn School and Sertoma Center. The Charity Classic will feature a full run-through for the 2008 season, including pre-game activities, between-inning promotions, and a full concession menu. After the game, all kids will be able to run the bases and meet the ThunderBolts players for autographs.
Notes: following Saturday's game, field manager Brian Nelson announced that catcher Gavin Concepcion had been traded to the Evansville Otters while outfielders Scott Balster and Adam Warren and infielder Travis Check were released.
