Bolts 6 Boomers 3
SCHAUMBURG, IL – For the second straight day, the ThunderBolts rode a big inning to a win over the Schaumburg Boomers. They scored six runs in the second on their way to a 6-3 win Sunday afternoon.
For the third consecutive day, the Boomers (1-8) struck first, getting a first-inning run on three singles. Paul Kronenfeld knocked in Jordan Dean.
The ThunderBolts (8-1) wasted no time in retaliating. With two outs and no one on in the second, Cody Keefer and Taylor Smart hit back-to-back doubles to get the Bolts on the board. Larry Balkwill followed with an RBI single to make it 2-1. Kevin Barker walked and Coco Johnson singled to bring home another run. Tim Zier’s single scored Barker and both Johnson and Zier scored on a Blair Beck single that also featured an error.
In all, the ThunderBolts scored six runs in the second inning with seven consecutive two-out baserunners.
The Boomers would tighten the game up in the seventh. A Mark Nelson sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Dusty Robinson made it 6-3, but the Windy City bullpen did not allow a run in two innings, making 6-3 the final.
Jake Fisher (1-0) allowed three runs in seven innings for the win and Brett Mabry (0-1) allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings to take the loss. Cameron Giannini pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save.
The victory was the ThunderBolts’ seventh straight.
The ThunderBolts will take Monday off before beginning a nine-game home stand on Tuesday. The Lake Erie Crushers will be in town for $2 Tuesday. All tickets will be sold for just two dollars. Ryan Strombom (1-0, 5.40) will get the start for the ThunderBolts against Lake Erie’s Colin Feldtman (0-0, 2.70).
