Mike Torres and Travis Tingle will be representing the Windy City ThunderBolts at the 2015 Frontier League All-Star Game. The game will be played Wednesday, July 15 at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium. This will be the first all-star appearance for Tingle and the fifth for Torres.
Tingle is in his third year with the ThunderBolts out of the University of Louisville. In his career, he has gone 15-17 with a 3.91 ERA. He was an all-star hopeful in 2014, sporting a 2.55 ERA through the end of June, but he struggled in two starts prior to the break. This year, he has been effective since opening day. He ranks third in the West Division with a 2.41 ERA and second in WHIP at 1.03. His strikeout to walk ratio of 50:7 is the best among Frontier League starters.
Tingle had arguably his best start of the season last Friday night, throwing 8.2 shutout innings before losing the shutout with two unearned runs in the ninth. He has thrown two complete games, both nine-inning contests, one of only two pitchers in the Frontier League to do that this year.
While Tingle will be enjoying his first all-star experience, he will be joined by a veteran. Torres will be appearing in his fifth game, most in team history, breaking a tie with former teammate Zach Aakhus. This is Torres’s fourth year appearing in the All-Star Game as a second baseman after making it as a reserve third baseman in 2010. It is his third time as a starter and first since 2012. In all-star competitions, he has gone 2-for-7 with a walk, a stolen base, a run and an RBI.
Torres is batting .310 this season with a .393 on-base percentage. He has 11 multi-hit games, including four with at least three hits. He also ranks second on the team with 11 stolen bases and leads the Frontier League with nine sacrifice bunts.
The Frontier League All-Star Game will be played in Schaumburg at 6:30 on July 15. The home run derby is at 6:30 on Tuesday, July 14.
