Bums 7 Bolts 5
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The ThunderBolts scored four runs in the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback as lost their third straight game, falling to the Traverse City Beach Bums 7-5 at Wuerfel Park Friday night.
The Beach Bums scored a pair of runs in the first inning without a hit. They went ahead 2-0 on three walks and two sacrifice flies.
Windy City was quick to respond, when Max White singled and Zach Stoner tripled in the second to make it 2-1. Stoner was left at third base.
Traverse City strengthened their lead in the fourth inning when Brandon Jacobs singled and Sam Bumpers doubled him home. They added another run the following inning when Alex Tomasovich walked and later scored on a Yazy Arbelo groundout.
Traverse City’s sixth inning distanced them as they got RBI singles from Jake Rhodes, Tomasovich and Jose Vargas to go up 7-1.
The ThunderBolts loaded the base but were unable to score in the eighth before they finally broke through again in the ninth. Jacob Tanis and Stoner singled and Ransom LaLonde walked to load the bases before Ryan Tufts brought home two runs on a single. With one out, Mike Torres doubled home two more runs to bring the Bolts within two. But Traverse City closer Andrew Brockett was able to record the final two outs, securing the victory and his second save.
In the game, the ThunderBolts stranded eight runners, including five in scoring position.
Casey Delgado (1-1) pitched 6.1 innings for the win and Austin Wright (1-1) allowed four runs in four innings in the loss, which dropped the Bolts to 3-4 on the season.
