Kyle Robinson
CRESTWOOD, IL – Kyle Robinson’s RBI double in the bottom of the tenth scored Mike Torres and walked the ThunderBolts off to a 3-2 win over the Washington Wild Things at Standard Bank Stadium Thursday night.
The night did not start as well for Windy City as Washington scored a first-inning run for the third straight night. Scott Kalamar led off with a double and later scored on a Will Beckwith groundout.
The Wild Things added a run in the second inning when Jim Vahalik singled and moved to second when Ryan Kresky was hit by a pitch. Vahalik then scored all the way from second on an infield hit for Pat Kregeloh to make it 2-0. The Wild Things would load the bases but a Jake Fisher strikeout got the ThunderBolts out of the second inning.
Windy City got on the board in the third. Torres singled and Robinson doubled him in to cut the lead in half. They tied the score three innings later. Robinson was involved again as he led off with a single. Ryan Soares followed with a double to score him and knot it up at three.
Neither side was able to generate any offense again until the tenth. Washington loaded the bases but didn’t score before Robinson made them pay. With two outs, Torres walked and Robinson hit a 3-2 pitch to right field to score him for the win.
Reese McGraw (1-1) struck out four batters in 1.2 innings and earned the win and Pat Butler (2-3) took the loss.
The ThunderBolts continue their six-game homestand when they welcome the Frontier Greys to town on Friday. Travis Tingle (7-5, 4.96) will get the start for the Bolts against Clint Wright (6-6, 4.79) of the Greys. Illinois Operation Life Saver will be sponsoring a special Jersey-Off-Their-Back Night and the ThunderBolts’ special railroad themed jerseys will be auctioned off during the game. First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on meridix.com.
