Bolts 5 Aviators 3
ROCKFORD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored five early runs before hanging on to a 5-3 win over the Rockford Aviators at Aviators Stadium Sunday evening.
Ryan McIntyre hit a first-inning home run for the second straight day, scoring Kyle Robinson, who had singled, to make it 2-0.
The Bolts added a run in the second on Max White’s RBI double. White scored Davidson Peguero, who had walked. Peguero led off the fourth with a walk as well and scored on a Spencer Castro double. Evan Button’s single scored Castro to make it 5-0.
The Aviators chipped away, scoring a run in the fourth on a Kenny Bryant RBI double. They loaded the bases with no outs but Eli Anderson retired three in a row to get out of the jam with no further damage.
Rockford scored again the following inning when Edgar Corcino doubled and later scored on a Tanner Witt groundball.
The Aviators threatened again in the sixth, putting runners at second and third but could not push a run across. Overall, they left ten men on base. They scored their final run in the seventh inning; Kyle Dhanani singled, Witt reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Dusty Robinson’s triple. Robinson was stranded on third.
Reese McGraw and Daniel Carela threw the final two innings scoreless to finalize the 5-3 win.
Anderson (1-5) started for the Bolts and picked up his first professional win, going six innings and allowing two runs on six hits. Kyle Brueggemann (2-6) took the loss for Rockford despite lasting seven innings. He allowed five runs on eight hits.
The ThunderBolts and Aviators are scheduled to play game two of their series on Monday night. Daniel Cropper (4-6, 4.80) will start for Windy City against Rockford’s Josh Slaats (3-3, 4.53). First pitch from Aviators Stadium on Sunday is scheduled for 7:05 and fans can hear the radio broadcast on meridix.com.
