Another ThunderBolts coach is moving to the affiliated ranks as Ehren Wassermann has been hired by the Minnesota Twins. Wassermann, who served as the pitching coach for Windy City last year, will assume the same position with the Florida Gulf Coast League Twins.
Wassermann, who pitched for two seasons in the Major Leagues with the Chicago White Sox, spent one season in control of the ThunderBolts pitching staff. Under his guidance, the team finished sixth in the league with a 3.74 ERA, more than a half-run improvement from 2011.
The ThunderBolts led the league in complete games with 16, doubling second-place Florence’s eight. They also tied for the league-lead with ten team shutouts.
Wassermann’s lone season as Windy City pitching coach also saw Mike Recchia win the team’s first Brian Tollberg award and Tyson Corley go from the bullpen at the start of the season to throwing the franchise’s second no-hitter in late August.
With the Twins, Wassermann will join four other former ThunderBolt coaches who are currently in affiliated ball including last season’s manager, Morgan Burkhart who was hired as a hitting coach in the San Diego Padres organization last month.
