ThunderBolts score late in 5-3 win

CRESTWOOD, IL – Brandon Decker’s two-out RBI single in the seventh put the ThunderBolts on top of the Evansville Otters in a game they would win 5-3 at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night.

The Bolts got on the board, taking their first lead of the series, in the third inning. Mike Torres and Chris Wade each singled and C.J. Gillman brought home Torres on a two-out base hit.

Evansville tied the score in the top of the sixth. Stephen Marino doubled and Billy Killian singled him in. Killian made it to third base, but Blayne Weller got out of the jam without any further damage.

Windy City reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With Torres at first, Wade hit his third home run of the year and gave the Bolts a 3-1 advantage.

Weller had struck out 11 through six innings and had retired eight in a row when he ran into some trouble. The Otters got a run on three straight singles in the seventh. The third, hit by Taylor Black, scored Killian and a throwing error on the play brought Runey Davis in to tie the score.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the ThunderBolts had runners at the corners with one out and Patrick Crider struck out Gillman. With two outs, though, Decker came through, extending his hitting streak to 14 games on the RBI single. The Bolts added a run in the eighth on a Wade fielder’s choice to make the final score 5-3.

Michael Click (2-1) threw only one pitch and got an out to earn the win while Evansville starter Wynn Pelzer (1-3) took the loss. Willy Kesler pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.

The rubber match between the ThunderBolts and Otters is Sunday night at 5:05. It is Family Night at Standard Bank Stadium. Players will be signing autographs before the game and families can play catch on the outfield after the game. Tyson Corley (3-6, 3.41) will start for Windy City against Evansville’s Matt Zielinski (6-5, 4.08). The broadcast can be heard on sportsjuice.com.
