Bolts split Sunday doubleheader08/05/2012 8:12 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored eight runs on 12 hits in game one of a doubleheader split with the Rockford RiverHawks at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday, winning 8-4. They dropped the nightcap 5-1. Javier Herrera’s first-inning home run in game one put the RiverHawks briefly on top 1-0. The Bolts answered on a C.J. Gillman sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. They opened up their first lead in the second, collecting four hits, including a Zach Aakhus RBI double. Chris Wade and Chad Cregar each picked up RBI singles in the four-run rally that gave the Bolts a 5-1 lead. Ryan Cuneo and Brandon Decker brought home runs on base hits in the fourth to make it 7-1 and after Rockford rallied for three runs to make it 7-4, Gillman’s bases loaded walk put the game away in the fifth at 8-4. Dustin Williams (10-4) went five innings for the win while Kyle Schepel (3-4) gave up seven runs over four innings, taking the loss. Game two was dominated by Rockford starter Drew Rucinski. He threw six innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Rockford scored all of their runs in the third and fourth, putting up back-to-back multi-run innings. In the third, Evan Button hit a two-run single to put the RiverHawks on the board and Jet Butler made it 3-0 with a two-out RBI hits. They scored two more in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single from Herrera. The ThunderBolts only offense came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gillman had walked and moved to second on a groundout. With Brandon Decker up, Gillman scored from second base on a wild pitch to breakup Rucinski’s shutout. That would be their only run in a 5-1 loss. Rucinski went six innings, improving to 6-1 with the win and Blayne Weller (4-2) allowed all five runs in four innings for the loss. After an off-day on Monday, the ThunderBolts will head to the road for three games with the Florence Freedom. Game one of the series will start at 6:05 CDT on Tuesday at The Home of the Florence Freedom. It will feature Tyson Corley (2-6, 2.65) on the mound for Windy City against Florence’s Alec Lewis (4-6, 4.36). The game broadcast can be heard on sportsjuice.com. |
