ThunderBolts lose laugher to Traverse City

CRESTWOOD, IL –The Beach Bums scored five runs in the sixth inning, putting away a game that they would go on to win 15-8 over the ThunderBolts at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night.

Traverse City scored two runs in the second after an error kept the inning alive. Ryan Still picked up an RBI single, one of four RBIs for him in the game.

The Bolts took a brief lead with three runs in the third. Brandon Pearl and Mike Torres singled before C.J. Gillman walked to load the bases. Chad Cregar brought home one run on a fielder’s choice and an error scored another before Bob Glover’s RBI double ended the rally.

Traverse City would reclaim the lead for good in the fourth. Brian Heere and Still hit back-to-back home runs and Kyle Colligan hit an RBI single to give the Bums a 6-3 lead. It became 8-3 after a two-run fifth.

The ThunderBolts stayed alive in the bottom of the fifth, when Zach Aakhus hit a two-out, two-run double to make it 8-5, but the Beach Bums took control the following inning.

Wildness helped the Bums score five in the sixth as they received a walk and two hit batters. They had only three hits in the rally that put Windy City down 13-5.

It was 15-5 in the ninth when the ThunderBolts made their next offensive charge, scoring three runs on four doubles. Gillman, Glover and Decker picked up RBI. Glover had three hits, including two doubles and also struck out two batters in an inning pitched. Torres extended his hit streak to a season-high 14 games.

Scott Dunn (2-2) pitched six innings for Traverse City, earning the win and Williams (8-4) took the loss.

The series continues Thursday night on Bud Light Thirsty Thursday at Standard Bank Stadium. Domestic draft beers will be sold for just $1.25. Blayne Weller (4-0, 3.47) will get the start for the ThunderBolts against Traverse City’s Jacob Clem (3-4, 2.84). The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 and can be heard on WXAV, 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
