Bolts lose early lead in 7-4 defeat

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The ThunderBolts scored four runs in the first inning, but were not able to hang on in a 7-4 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium Tuesday night.

The first five men reached base safely for the ThunderBolts against Schaumburg starter Shane Prance. Bob Glover walked and stole second in front of Mike Torres, who doubled him in. Torres scored when Chris Wade dropped down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away by Andrew Cohn. Wade ended up at second base and crossed the plate on Chad Cregar’s RBI single. That made the score 3-0 after just four batters. The rally concluded with Cregar scoring on a Zach Aakhus RBI single.

The Boomers were quick to answer against Blayne Weller. Karexon Sanchez and Gerard Hall led off the bottom of the first with singles. Sanchez scored on a passed ball and Hall later was brought in on a sacrifice fly.

Frank Pfister tied the game in the third on a two-run homer, his eighth of the year.

Both teams had a bases loaded chance in ensuing innings, but the score remained 4-4 until the bottom of the seventh. Sanchez began the inning with a single and with one out, Pfister singled, putting runners on the corners. Steve McQuail’s base hit off of Tyson Corley scored Sanchez to give Schaumburg their first lead of the series. Pfister scored on a Sean Mahley suicide squeeze bunt, making it 6-4 and the scoring finished on a Chad Mozingo RBI hit.

Windy City was unable to mount an attack against the Boomers bullpen, not reaching second base after the fifth inning.

Joe Parsons (2-1) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings for the win and Michael Click (0-1) took the loss. Patrick Mincey pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save.

The ThunderBolts return home to begin a six-game homestand Wednesday night. The Traverse City Beach Bums will be in town for game one, $1.00 Wednesday at Standard Bank Stadium. Donovan Drake (1-0) will get the start for Windy City against Traverse City’s Brooks Belter (2-0). The game begins at 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on sportsjuice.com.
