Bolts lose in another Rascals comeback

O’FALLON, MO – The River City Rascals scored five runs in the sixth inning to come from behind for the second straight night to defeat the ThunderBolts 12-7 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark Wednesday night.
The Bolts scored first in this one when Brandon Anderson led off the game with a single. He scored on a two-out hit from Devin Shepherd.
The lead was short-lived. After two singles in the bottom of the first, Stephen Holdren hit his league-leading 19th home run to put the Rascals up 3-1. They added another run later in the inning on a Danny Sawyer base hit.
Just as they did on Tuesday night, though, the ThunderBolts clawed back. Lee Rubin’s second-inning homer made it 4-2 and they tied the game in the fourth when Rubin walked and Anderson doubled before Mike Torres came up with a two-out two-run single. They finally reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning. Rubin led off with a single and Nick Kuroczko walked with two outs before Torres came up with another big hit, a two-run double that made the score 6-4.
Again, though, the Rascals answered quickly. In the bottom of the sixth, with one out, they came up with five consecutive hits, including an RBI triple for Eric Williams, RBI single for Doug Sanders and a two-run double for Stephen Holdren that chased Dustin Williams from the game. Joash Brodin then came up with a sacrifice fly to end the scoring for the inning, the Rascals up 9-6. Sawyer homered in the seventh to make it a four-run game.
Windy City had one more score in them as Quentin Luquette walked in the eighth and came across the plate on a Kuroczko sacrifice fly but Anderson was stranded at second and Windy City did not threaten again.
River City added two runs for good measure in the eighth to finalize the score at 12-7. Jason Pankau pitched three innings of relief, earning his first professional win (1-0) and Williams took the loss (8-5).
River City goes for a sweep of the Bolts Thursday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Bryant Cotton (5-6) gets the start for Windy City and Don Lisi (4-1) will go for the Rascals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and the game can be heard on WXAV 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
