Grand slam stuns Windy City 4-3

OTTAWA, ON - The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped their sixth straight game 4-3 against the Ottawa Titans Friday night at Ottawa Stadium. 

 

The ballgame featured a pitching duel between Bolts right-hander Will Armbruester and Titans lefty Tyler Jandron. 

 

Each team had one hit through five innings, until the top of the sixth. Windy City (8-12) notched singles by Lolo Williams and Henry Kusiak. With the base hit, Kusiak extended his hit streak to five straight games.

 

Joe Johnson knocked in a run with an RBI groundout, breaking the ice for a 1-0 Bolts lead. Christian Kuzemka cracked a base hit to right field, making the Windy City advantage 2-0.

 

Ottawa (8-10) first baseman Jamey Smart cracked the first hit for Ottawa in the first. In the bottom of the sixth, A.J. Wright hit a one out single. 

 

It wasn’t until the bottom of the seventh that the Titans found force. Following singles by Taylor Wright and Malik Williams, Jake Guenther walked. Jackie Urbaez then demolished a grand slam, bringing Ottawa ahead 4-2.

 

Cam Phelts reached base four times, including his second single in the top of the eighth. Kusiak walked, and Phelts stole third base. Johnson added another RBI groundout, but it was not enough.

 

Armbruester (0-1) threw 6.2 innings of work, surrendering four earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out none. Jack Mahoney pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the loss.

 

Jandron (1-1) threw 7.1 innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out three. Erasmo Pinales secured his fifth save of the season. 

 

Windy City is back on the diamond Saturday night at Ottawa Stadium against the Titans at 5:30 CDT. Taylor Sugg (0-2, 10.13) gets the start for the Bolts. The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
