Grizzles Edge WIndy City 4-2

SAUGET, IL, The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped the middle game of the series 4-2 Saturday evening at Grizzlies Ballpark. 

 

Grizzlies (4-4) third baseman D.J. Stewart cranked an RBI single making it 1-0 in the bottom of the first and has now hit safely an all eight games this season. 

 

Stewart hit his second RBI single of the evening in the bottom of the third, accumulating a 2-0 lead. 

 

Following a two-out walk in the top of the fifth, Windy City (4-5) first baseman Christian Kuzemka crushed a two-run home run knotting the game 2-2.

 

The Grizzlies roared back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eric Hildebrand (0-1) coughed up an RBI single to Jose Alvarez giving the Grizzlies a 3-2 lead. 

 

The Grizzlies bullpen gave up one hit over 4.1 innings of work, striking out eight while walking two, surrendering one hit by Wyatt Stapp in the top of the ninth.

 

Gateway held on the rest of the way, led by Stewart, who finished the night 4-for-4. Gateway potted insurance with an RBI double by Abdiel Diaz in the bottom of the eighth inning.

 

Nate Garkow (1-0) recorded the win, striking out four in 1.1 innings. Windy City's Eric Hildebrand (0-1) endured the loss for Windy City. Lukas Veinbergs notched his third save of the season.

 

John Mikolaicyk tossed five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out four over five innings in the no decision. Justin Miller and Jack Mahoney each tossed scoreless outings for the Bolts.

 

Windy City seeks the series Sunday at 1:05 CDT at Grizzlies Ballpark. Will Armbruester (0-0, 7.94) starts for the Bolts and the broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
