Grizzlies scrape Windy City 10-3

SAUGET, IL- The Windy City ThunderBolts fell to the Gateway Grizzlies 10-3 Thursday night at Grizzlies Ballpark. 

 

Gateway (53-33) busted open the ball game with an RBI single by Cole Brannen in the bottom of the first inning. Clint Freeman knocked an RBI double, making it 2-0. 

 

In the bottom of the second inning, Eric Rivera doubled home another run, collecting a 3-0 Grizzles lead.

 

Paul Coumoulos drove an RBI single in the top of the third, cutting the Gateway lead to 3-1.

 

The Grizzlies tacked on another run on an RBI single from DJ Stewart in the bottom of the third. Next to the plate, Willie Estrada, drove in two more runs giving the Grizzlies a 6-1 cushion. 

 

The Bolts (36-50) struck in the sixth via a Will Riley RBI single. A passed ball made it 6-3.

 

Kyle Gaedele nailed a three run home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Grizzlies went back to back slugging a solo home run from DJ Stewart in the next at bat, making it 10-3.

 

Bolts starting pitcher Adrian Reese (0-5) threw 2.2 innings, enduring nine hits and five earned runs while walking one and striking out two. Tyler LaPorte and Carsie Walker each threw 1.1 of scoreless ball

 

Catcher Jonathan Waite tossed a spotless eighth inning. Jake Boone, Peyton Isaacson, Junior Martina, and Bren Spillane had hits in the loss.

 

The Bolts are back in action Friday night as they open the final home stand of the year against the Joliet Slammers at 6:35 CDT. Garrett Christman (7-4, 2.88) gets the start for the Bolts on Video Game Night at Ozinga Field, featuring appearances from Mario, Luigi and Sonic. A JULIE can koozie will be handed out to the first 500 adults at the ballpark and the game will be followed by a fireworks display. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
