Bolts capture series with 3-1 win over Slammers

JOLIET, IL-The Windy City ThunderBolts took the neighborhood showdown series defeating the Joliet Slammers 3-1 Thursday evening at Duly Health and Care Field. 

 

The ThunderBolts (34-46) struck first in the top of the first inning. Peyton Issacson knocked an RBI-single, bringing the Bolts a 1-0 lead.

 

The ballgame remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Issacson singled to center. Next at the plate, Micah Yonamine smashed his 11th home run of the season to the opposite field making it a 3-0 Bolts advantage. 

 

Joliet (37-44) answered in the bottom of the sixth inning via a ThunderBolt error, cutting the deficit to 3-1. 

 

Windy City starting pitcher Logan Schmitt (5-4) tossed six innings allowing one run, none earned, on seven hits while walking one and striking out three.

 

Issacson along with Troy Viola each had multi-hit nights in the victory for Windy City.

 

Justin Miller and Sebastian Selway each threw scoreless innings coming out of the bullpen for the Bolts. Derrick Eddington earned his second save of the series with a perfect ninth inning for the second time in the series. 

 

Slammers starting pitcher Ryan O’Riley (1-5) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while walking two and strIking out six. 

 

The Bolts are back in action Friday evening at Ozinga Field against the Schaumburg Boomers at 6:35 CDT.  The popular Princess & Pirate Night returns presented by Donate Life - Illinois!  The night features appearances by Anna, Elsa, Ariel, Cinderella and Captain Jack Sparrow courtesy of Windy City Wishes; Also the first 500 kids receive a princess tiara or pirate eye-patch.
