Schaumburg takes opener from Bolts

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The Windy City Thunderbolts (2-5) fell 5-3 to the Schaumburg Boomers (4-3) in the opener of a short two-game series.

Schaumburg took the early 1-0 lead off a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the first. Alex Craig extended the Schaumburg lead by two in the fifth on a RBI double.

In the top of the fifth inning, Junior Martina tied the with a two run blast to right, his second home run of the season.

Schaumburg scored off an error in the bottom of the inning, taking the 3-2 lead but the Bolts answered right back with a Jake Boone two-out RBI single to center field to tie the game at three.

The Boomers took the late lead in the bottom of the eighth on an Alec Craig lead off solo shot to right. Miles Simington hit an RBI single to left, extending the lead and making the final score 5-3.

Garrett Christman got the no decision, as he went six innings surrendering nine hits and two earned runs. Justin Miller took the loss, giving up the go-ahead home run.

The Bolts look to tie the two game series against the Schaumburg Boomers on Saturday night. Adrien Reese will make his first career start and Schaumburg counters with Jackson Hickert. First pitch is slated for 6:00 and the broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
