ThunderBolts drop rubber match with Trois-Riviéres

BOX SCORE

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts (2-4) dropped the finale of a three-game set against the Trois-Riviéres Aigles (3-3) by a score of 8-4 on Thursday at Ozinga Field.

Both teams got on the board in the first inning, with Juan Kelly getting the party started for the Aigles with a two-out solo blast to dead center. The Bolts responded in the bottom half of the frame with three runs of their own thanks to a Dan Robinson RBI single and a pair of sacrifice flies.

The Windy City lead was short-lived, as Trois-Riviéres put up a five spot in the top of the third, with four of the runs coming with two outs. A two-run double from Nolan Machibroda highlighted the barrage for the Aigles.

The Bolts would get back on the board with a solo homer of their own courtesy of Bren Spillane, making it three on the young campaign for the outfielder.

Nolan Machibroda struck again in the fifth with the third solo shot of the ballgame, extending the Aigles lead to 7-4. From there, the visitors would tack on another run off a Malik Williams RBI single in the sixth and coast the rest of the way.

Cole Bellair got the loss for the Bolts, as went 5.2 innings in his second start of the season. He allowed nine hits and eight runs while walking 4 in his outing. Cal Djuraskovic, Justin Miller and Daiveyon Whittle all got work out of the bullpen, relieving Bellair. The trio blanked the Aigles over 3.1 innings, as they combined for seven punchouts and only walked two.

The Bolts will look to turn things around tomorrow in a shortened two-game series in the Chicagoland area at Wintrust Field against the Schaumburg Boomers. Garrett Christman will take the ball for Windy City and make his season debut. Miguel Reyes will oppose him for the Boomers. The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
