Six-Run Inning Dooms Bolts

Schaumburg, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped their second straight game to the Schaumburg Boomers, 8-4, on Saturday night at Wintrust Field. The Boomers six-run fifth inning was the separator.

The Bolts (19-29) started strong on offense. Three of the first four batters reached, bringing Brian Fuentes to the plate with the bases loaded. Fuentes singled to left, making it 1-0 Bolts. The next hitter, Jake Boone, grounded out to the pitcher, extending the lead to 2-0.

Kenny Mathews worked through four scoreless innings to preserve the lead for the Bolts. The left-hander faced a bases loaded, zero outs situation in the first inning and did not allow a run.

The Boomers (26-23) cracked the scoreboard off Mathews in the fifth inning. Chase Dawson’s double drove in the first run to make it 2-1. Two batters later, Braxton Davidson doubled to right-center, clearing the bases and pushing Schaumburg ahead, 4-2. Alec Craig and Brett Milazzo capped the inning with RBI singles.

Windy City battled back in the seventh inning. Peyton Isaacson homered to lead off the inning. Dan Robinson cut the Bolts’ deficit to two runs with an RBI single. After putting runners at 1st and 2nd with no one out, the Bolts were retired in order.

Schaumburg added two in the eighth to put the game away.

Kenny Mathews (3-2) suffered the loss and was charged with five runs over 4.1 innings. Blake Stelzer (4-2) earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing four runs. Darrell Thompson (7) recorded the final six outs to earn the save.

The ThunderBolts and Boomers close the series Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM CDT. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
