First Inning Sets Bolts Back

Schaumburg, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts lost the opening game of a three-game series against the Schaumburg Boomers, 5-1, on Friday night at Wintrust Field. The Bolts (19-28) never led after a three-run first inning by the Boomers (25-23).

The first five hitters reached for Schaumburg. Chase Dawson doubled and Will Salas singled before Mike Hart drove both men in with a triple. Matt Botcher completed the three-run rally with an RBI single.

The Bolts scored their only run of the night in the top of the second inning. Brynn Martinez walked and later scored on Payton Robertson’s RBI single.

The Boomers added runs in the fifth and seventh inning to pull away. An RBI groundout by Braxton Davidson and an RBI single by Mike Hart completed the scoring.

ThunderBolts left-hander Bryan Ketchie (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) over 6.2 innings. Jumpei Akanuma (2-0) earned the win with five innings of one-run ball.

The ThunderBolts and Boomers continue the series Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM CDT. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
