Bolts Denied Sweep in Joliet

BOX SCORE

JOLIET, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts came up a game shy of a three-game sweep with a 5-1 loss against the Joliet Slammers on Thursday night at Duly Health and Care Field. Windy City (16-18) led most of the night, until Joliet (19-18) erupted for four runs in the seventh inning.

The Bolts only scoring occured in the opening inning. With two outs, Jairus Richards singled, stole second, then scored on Brian Fuentes’ RBI single.

The early and middle innings were dominated by pitching.

Bolts starter Sebastian Selway took a shutout and a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning. That’s when Joliet tied the game. With Matt Burch on first, Brylie Ware singled to right and a ThunderBolts error allowed Burch to reach third. The next hitter, Luke Mangieri, hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Selway exited after six innings with no decision, allowing just the one unearned run.

Tyler Thornton came on to pitch in the seventh. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Carson Maxwell hit a go-ahead solo homer. Matt Burch tripled home two runs and Brylie Ware made it 5-1 with an RBI single.

After allowing four runs, Thornton (2-5) took the loss.

Trevor Charpie (2-1) earned the win for Joliet with seven innings of one-run ball, striking out five and walking none.
