Florence comes from behind to beat Bolts

BOX SCORE

CRESTWOOD, IL – For the second straight night, the Florence Y’alls mounted a late rally to deliver the ThunderBolts a loss. The Y’alls erased a 3-0 deficit Friday to knock off the Bolts 5-3.

The brunt of the Windy City offense came in the bottom of the third inning. That’s when Pierce Jones hit a one-out single and advanced all the way to third base on an error. Dan Robinson came up with an RBI single to make it 1-0. After Jairus Richards bunted his way aboard, Brian Fuentes came through with a two-run base hit that built the lead to 3-0.

That was all the ThunderBolts (14-17) could muster offensively but for much of the game it appeared to be enough. Garrett Christman pitched six shutout innings to keep the score where it was but he saw three straight Y’alls reach base in the seventh on a single, a double and a walk. He departed with one out and the bases full and Justin Miller was unable to get out of the jam.

Ian Bibiloni brought home the first run on a fielder’s choice, then Ray Zuberer delivered the big blow, a two-run double that knotted the score.

One inning later, Florence took its first lead on a two-run Joe Lytle triple that cemented the score at 5-3.

Darwin Ramos (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win while Miller (2-2) took the loss.

The ThunderBolts take both Sunday and Monday off before returning to the field in Joliet on Tuesday. It will be their first meeting with the Slammers since an Opening Night win and the beginning of a brief three-game road trip. Bryan Ketchie (1-2, 5.79) will get the call on the mound for the Bolts. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 CDT and the broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
