ThunderBolts drop rubber game

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Florence Y’alls jumped on the ThunderBolts for three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to capture the rubber match with the ThunderBolts 6-2 at Ozinga Field Friday night.

Bryan Ketchie started strong for the ThunderBolts (38-49), allowing only three hits and striking out three over the first three innings. The fourth inning began with an error followed by back-to-back RBI doubles for Chad Sedio and Trevor Craport. A Harrison DiNicola single made it 3-0.

The ThunderBolts bounced back quickly. In the bottom of the frame, Rob Calabrese walked and Rob Weissheier doubled him home. Weissheier scored on a Peyton Isaacson single that made it 3-2.

That was as close as the Bolts got. Florence (50-35) doubled their runs total in the next inning to pull away. They got two-out RBI hits from Craport and DiNicola that extended their lead to four.

Over the next three innings, the Bolts had two extra-base hits and got a runner to third base three times, but their threats were all snuffed out as the Y’alls hung on for the 6-2 win.

Johnathon Tripp improved to 9-1 with the win. He lasted six innings and gave up two runs on five hits.

After his strong start, Ketchie (2-6) ended up allowing all six runs (four earned) over 4.2 innings and took his first loss in a ThunderBolts uniform.

The ThunderBolts hit the road on Friday to begin their final road trip of the year, a four-game series against the Lake Erie Crushers at Mercy Health Stadium in Avon, Ohio. Miguel Ausua (7-5, 5.42) gets the game one start for the Bolts against Lake Erie’s Dillon Larsen (0-1, 3.74) with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 CDT.
