JOLIET, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts captured a 15-3 win over the Joliet Slammers on Sunday afternoon at DuPage Medical Group Field. 15 runs are the most the Bolts (36-41) have scored this season. In the opening two innings, the teams played to a 3-3 draw. The Bolts scored three runs with two outs in the second. Nikola Vasic reached on an error to score the first run. Back-to-back RBI singles by Payton Robertson and Brynn Martinez pushed the lead to 3-0. Joliet retaliated in the bottom of the second, tying the game on Jordan Rathbone’s three-run homer. In the top of the third, the Bolts took the lead for good. Jack Strunc ripped an RBI single to right. Vasic plated two runs with a triple to left. Leading 6-3, the Bolts slammed a pair of homers to add insurance. Peyton Isaacson hit a solo shot to right field in the fourth inning. Later, Jace Mercer capped a six-run seventh with a three-run home run. Miguel Ausua (7-4) earned the win for the Bolts, throwing five innings of three-run ball, striking out eight. Chris Roycroft suffered the loss, allowing six runs in three innings for Joliet. The Bolts have the day off Monday before starting a three-game series in Evansville on Tuesday at 6:35 PM.
