Rosario’s Big Night Sinks Bolts

SAUGET, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts lost a 13-8 decision to the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark on Tuesday night. Jose Rosario was the offense star for Gateway (33-39), collecting four hits, belting two homers and driving in seven runs.

Rosario and Ty Moore both drove in runs in the first inning for Gateway. However, the Bolts (32-40) battled back to tie the game. Dan Robinson hit a solo homer and Payton Robertson’s hustle double tied the game, 2-2.

Rosario was at it again in the bottom of the third, hitting a solo homer to put Gateway ahead for good. The Grizzlies poured on in the fifth, scoring six runs to lead 9-2. Rosario’s two-run double was part of five hits in a row off Bolts starter Miguel Ausua.

The ThunderBolts chipped away late in the game, scoring five unanswered runs to bring the deficit to two runs. Brynn Martinez hit a solo homer in the sixth, the Bolts scored three more in the seventh and Zac Taylor’s RBI single made it a two-run game in the eighth.

In the home half of the eighth, Rosario supplied the dagger, a three-run homer to put the game out of reach.

The starters took the decisions. For the ThunderBolts, Miguel Ausua (6-4) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs in 4+ innings. Matt Mulhearn (2-3) earned the win in a quality start with six innings, allowing three runs.
