Martinez, Weissheier Muscle Bolts to Win

FLORENCE, KY – Brynn Martinez and Rob Weissheier combined for seven hits and five runs driven in, propelling the Windy City ThunderBolts to a 6-3 win over the Florence Y’alls on Thursday night. The Bolts (30-38) closed the 6-game road trip with a 4-2 record.

It was a wire-to-wire win, beginning with the two offensive stars. In the first, Martinez singled and Weissheier drove him home with a base hit.

Martinez collected his second of four hits with an RBI double in the third, making it 2-0 Bolts. Weissheier’s second RBI single padded the lead, 3-0. The next hitter, Zach Racusin, recorded a sacrifice fly, moving the advantage to 4-0.

Florence went on to score three unanswered runs. In the fourth, Joe Lytle trimmed the Bolts lead to three runs with an RBI ground out. An inning later, it was a one run game after Harrison DiNicola plated two on a base knock.

The game turned over to the bullpens from the sixth inning on. The score line didn’t change until Martinez slammed a two-run double into the left-center gap, his fourth hit of the night.

Neil Abbatiello and Brayden Bonner did the rest for the Bolts on the mound. Abbatiello fired 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out the final four batters he faced. Bonner, in his pro debut, retired all four opposing batters, including two strikeouts, to earn the save.

The starters took the decisions. Kenny Mathews (5-8) collected the win with five innings of three-run ball, scattering seven hits, walking none and striking out five. Jonaiker Villalobos (4-4) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in five innings.

The Bolts return home for a quick three-game home series with Quebec, beginning Friday night at 7:05 CT. For live coverage and tickets, fans can visit wcthunderbolts.com
